In 1955, a group of wine growers from the rolling countryside around Epernay founded Beaumont des Crayères Champagne in Mardeuil. With 85 hectares currently under vine in the very heart of Champagne, the house now markets approximately 600,000 bottles across the 5 continents.
For Beaumont des Crayères Champagne, such a level of self-sufficiency in fruit provides an extraordinary guarantee of quality and diversity. It makes it one of only a few houses able to apply ruthless selection techniques from the vineyard through to the bottle, whereby only the finest components are kept at each stage of the wine making process.
Enjoying critical acclaim within the industry and regularly awarded accolades in many countries, the outstanding quality of Beaumont des Crayères Champagne rapidly secured the house extensive international exposure. Hence, 70% of its Champagnes are exported.
Its broad range of Champagnes is now marketed in France and abroad in a selection of wine merchants, Champagne bars and gourmet restaurants.
As further proof of its quality across the globe, ISO 22000 certification was awarded to Beaumont des Crayères Champagne in 2014. It endorses a high level of expertise, the traceability of its Champagnes and its commitment to land conservation for future generations.
Three generations of member growers have tended to vineyards that are sometimes the size of a garden, both passionately and meticulously. This human dimension is a core component of Beaumont des Crayères Champagne.
Driven by a spirit of independence, an attachment to their homeland and high quality standards, the founding wine growers embarked upon a collective venture to create a top Champagne brand with authentic character. 60 years on, Beaumont des Crayères is a house of wine growers focusing on people, where the cellar master has complete control over every stage of the wine making process, guaranteeing a unique house style and remarkable quality.
Respect for the environment and a desire to pass on a unique heritage are the guiding principles of its wine growers and the reason why the house has been committed to responsible farming methods for many years. It is currently working on new standards for sustainable wine growing in Champagne. Similarly, Beaumont des Crayères' state-of-the-art wine making facilities illustrate the level of commitment by forward-looking men and women.
‘Beaumont des Crayères' is the name of one of the finest vineyards in Mardeuil, the emblem of an outstanding terroir. ‘Beaumont' alludes to its hillside location, guaranteeing ideal exposure to sunshine and natural soil drainage. ‘Crayères' refers to the hallmark chalky subsoil of the finest Champagne vineyards.
Vines belonging to Beaumont des Crayères are firmly rooted in the hillsides around Epernay, in the heart of Champagne, right on the edge of the Marne valley. A real patchwork formed of myriad individual vineyards, it combines the three great Champagne grape varieties. Pinot meunier for roundness and fruit character; Chardonnay for freshness and finesse; and Pinot noir for body and length. The wealth and articulacy of Beaumont des Crayères Champagne stems from this extensive diversity.
Mardeuil is one of the Champagne growths most highly renowned for the quality of its Pinot meunier. Well-suited to the climate of the Marne valley, it fully reveals itself when grown on the chalky subsoils of the rolling countryside around Epernay. Dubbed ‘the archetypal Champagne variety', Pinot meunier accounts for over 60% of the varietal range at Beaumont des Crayères Champagne.
The founding wine growers' great pride and deep-rooted attachment to the quality of this unique terroir, which prompted the creation of Beaumont des Crayères, are epitomised by the roses that can be seen amongst the vines and in the centre of its heraldry.
